Seven Thorns

Seven Thorns is a Danish power metal band started in 1998 by Lars (drums).
In 2003 Lars was joined by composer/vocalist Mik Holm. It was an instant match. Both shared the same vision of a band playing Power Metal. They started writing music and the line-up was complete in late 2004, but it didn’t last long...

The single 'Artificial Night' was released in the beginning of 2005. The single was nominated for a Danish Metal Award and the song 'Artificial Night' won the 4th unofficial European Heavy Metal Song Contest. While Mik was taking a break from 2005 –2007 Lars started his solo project 7thorns and recorded his first solo album in 2006.
Lars joined forces once again with Mik in 2007 and in 2008 they were joined by guitar wizard Gabriel Tuxen. Before the trio entered the studio in 2009 to record the single ’Forest Majesty’ Gabriel brought in fellow guitar equilibrist Christian B. Strøjer shortly followed by bass player Nicolaj Marker. As Mik wanted to focus on writing songs a search for a new vocalist was initiated. Erik ‘EZ’ Blomkvist (ex-Platitude) was chosen to record the vocals.
Encouraged by the positive feedback from the “Forest Majesty” single they took the music to the fans and played the new material in front of a live audience, this included supporting hard-rock/metal legend Jorn.

Later in 2009 keyboardist Asger joined the band. Asgers playing added a new dimension to the music and he quickly adapted to the sound and style of Seven Thorns. The debut album ’Return to the Past’ was recorded and mixed in Media Sound Studios before sending it to the legendary Tommy Hansen (Helloween, TNT, Pretty Maids…) for mastering. ’Liberty’, the first song on the album, features Olaf Lenk of At Vance playing a smashing guitar solo. A music video for ’Liberty’ was made to help promote the album. The album was released in 2011 through Nightmare Records. Seven Thorns also signed with Rock’N’Growl (promotion) and Red Lion Music (booking).
“Return to the Past” was a hit album with magazines, reviewers and radios all over the world. The album was backed up by 3 European tours in 2011 (supporting Circle II Circle), 2012 (supporting Lillian Axe) and 2013 (supporting Raven) and a lot of festivals and shows.

Their 2nd album was simply called “II”. Most of all to clarify that this was their second album (Lars’ solo album from 2006 is not a Seven Thorns release). Like on the first album vocals was done by Erik ‘EZ’, recording and mixing took place at Media Sound Studios and mastering skillfully carried out by Tommy ‘Mr. Helloween’ Hansen. The album was released on the German label Sonic Revolution in March 2014 and reviews and feedback were once again through the roof. A video for the bonus track ’Mamma Mia’ was recorded.
After the album was finished they were joined by Swedish singer Gustav. After successfully touring with Seven Thorns for almost 2 years he decided to focus on his education and left the band. His position was quickly taken by Nicko Davidsen.
2015 will take the band to new parts of the world as an Asian conquest scheduled for August. A new European tour will take place in March/April and a lot of new festivals are also on the Seven Thorns tour program.
